Senior Research Engineer

PeopleTec is currently seeking a Senior Research Engineer to support our Huntsville, AL location.

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Engineer to join our team at PeopleTec. This is a senior role for applicants with experience in topics such as engineering physics, electronics, micro-/nano-scale sciences with a focus on scientific model-building and scientific hypothesis testing, as well as experience working in a research and development team. In this role, you will have an opportunity to lead a small team on a broad range of projects in Government and contractor laboratories. You will work under with other highly experienced researchers and take an active role in the mentorship of more junior staff members. Collaborating with other engineers, scientists, and computer simulation experts, you will apply your education, experience, and expertise to research and develop sophisticated, fundamental models of currently under-studied and emerging areas of biology, electronics, and physics of interest to the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD).

Duties:

• Assisting leadership with capturing new business in R&D, including searching for opportunities, building customer relationships, and writing proposals
• Research activities, including performing independent literature searches and writing literature reviews
• Collaborative discussions with other researchers in multiple disciplines to generate and evaluate hypotheses
• Generation of experiment plans for simulated and laboratory test campaigns to support statistical model inference and support model validation
• Use of common computer software suites for simulation, calculation, scripting, document preparation, and results presentation as required (e.g. SPICE, Comsol, Matlab, Python, LaTeX, Microsoft Office)
• Interpretation of experiment results and presentation of own results to internal and external stakeholders
• Documentation and reporting, including programmatic and technical contributions to proposals and leading the completion of final reports for customers and publication-quality scientific literature
• Participation in meetings with internal and external stakeholders to understand and contribute to the team’s scientific direction, under guidance of senior personnel

Required Skills/Experience:

• 5-7 years’ experience in an any R&D role

• Project experience (in work or education) involving the following areas: experiment design, failure analysis and reverse engineering, computer modeling of chemical or electromagnetic systems

• Experience preparing scientific reports in LaTeX and Microsoft Office

• Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering, or other related field (3.5 GPA or higher)
• Completed a thesis- or dissertation-based curriculum for a graduate degree involving electrical or chemical engineering
• Travel: 10%
• Must be a U.S. Citizen
• An active DoD Secret clearance is required to perform this work. Candidates are required to have an active Secret clearance upon hire, and the ability to maintain this level of clearance during their employment.
