Opportunity

PeopleTec is currently seeking a Quality, Safety, and Mission Assurance (QSMA) Engineer to support our Huntsville, AL location.

We are seeking a highly experienced and mission-driven Quality, Safety, and Mission Assurance (QSMA) Engineer to support the Multi-Domain Artillery System (MDACS) program office within the Army Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies Office (RCCTO). This senior-level position will play a key role in shaping, implementing, and managing QSMA processes across development, prototyping, integration, testing, and production transition phases. The selected candidate will provide expert guidance on quality, safety, and mission assurance requirements, policies, and best practices for a complex, rapidly evolving system of systems. This includes developing and evaluating quality plans, participating in design and production reviews, conducting risk assessments, supporting configuration and change control boards, and leading efforts to identify and mitigate quality and safety risks across the program lifecycle. The QSMA Engineer will interface closely with engineering, test, logistics, contracting, and acquisition teams to ensure that delivered capabilities meet technical performance requirements and are safe, reliable, and mission-ready.

Duties:

  • Provide senior QSMA leadership and technical guidance for the MDACS program across concept development, prototyping, and transition to fielding.
  • Develop and assess quality assurance policies, procedures, and metrics tailored to the needs of an evolving system.
  • Define and enforce safety standards, processes, and review protocols to ensure system safety and compliance with Army and DoD policies.
  • Participate in technical reviews and provide independent mission assurance insight on engineering, production, and integration activities.
  • Collaborate with government, contractor, and test team personnel to evaluate risk, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Oversee root cause analysis, corrective/preventive actions, and nonconformance resolution processes.
  • Support development of Statements of Work (SOWs), quality evaluation criteria, and contract deliverables.
  • Advise on quality implications for acquisition strategies and contractor performance assessment.
  • Conduct site visits and audits to evaluate contractor QA systems and identify areas for improvement.
  • Provide input to milestone decision reviews and readiness assessments.

Qualifications

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Minimum 15 years of experience in Quality, Safety, and Mission Assurance or engineering roles within DoD programs.
  • Experience leading or supporting QSMA activities in early development and prototyping environments, with a focus on risk identification, mitigation planning, and quality integration from concept through field testing.
  • Deep understanding of DoD and Army acquisition lifecycle and QSMA frameworks.
  • Experience supporting major weapons systems across development, integration, and test phases.
  • Knowledge of quality management systems, configuration control, and mission assurance principles.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement risk-based quality strategies and safety processes.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to brief senior leadership.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced and dynamic program environment.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing program needs in high-velocity environments.
  • Must have a current driver's license.
  • Travel: 10-25%
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Active U.S. DoD Secret clearance (or ability to obtain) is required to perform this work.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, quality assurance, or a related technical field from an accredited institution is required.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • DAWIA certifications in Engineering, Production Quality and Manufacturing (PQM), or Program Management are a plus.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience supporting U.S. Army rapid prototyping or Middle Tier Acquisition (MTA) programs, such as RCCTO or DEVCOM—demonstrates familiarity with accelerated development and acquisition strategies.
  • Experience conducting system safety assessments and hazard analysis essential for assuring safe integration and fielding of capabilities.
  • Hands-on experience with production readiness reviews, first article inspections, and manufacturing process audits—supports transition from prototyping to production.
  • Participation in or leadership of design or configuration control boards and Engineering Change Proposal (ECP) processes—key for maintaining technical integrity and traceability during iterative development.
