Opportunity

PeopleTec is currently seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to support our Huntsville, AL location.

 

The Senior Systems Engineer will provide Systems Engineering and Technical Assistance (SETA) support to a PEO Missiles & Space Program Management Office.

 

Duties:

  • Technical Leadership & Systems Engineering
    • Systems Engineering Authority: Serve as senior technical authority across multiple defense systems, providing expertise throughout the acquisition lifecycle. This includes system architecture, requirements analysis, integration planning, performance assessment, and technical risk management across diverse Army platforms and technologies.
    • Requirements Engineering: Lead the translation of operational needs into clear, comprehensive, and technically feasible system requirements. Apply systems engineering principles to decompose complex systems and identify critical performance parameters, interfaces, and constraints.
    • System Architecture & Integration: Develop and review system architectures for complex defense systems, ensuring designs meet performance requirements while maintaining scalability, interoperability, and adaptability to evolving threats and mission needs.
    • Trade Studies & Technical Analysis: Conduct comprehensive trade studies evaluating alternative system approaches, technologies, and architectures. Provide data-driven recommendations considering technical merit, cost, schedule, and risk factors.
    • Design Reviews & Technical Assessments: Lead and participate in technical design reviews (PDR, CDR, TRR) across program lifecycle phases. Assess design maturity, identify technical risks, and provide recommendations for risk mitigation.
    • Modeling & Simulation: Oversee development and validation of system performance models. Utilize M&S tools to predict system behavior under various operational scenarios and validate requirements feasibility
  • Acquisition Support
    • Acquisition Planning: Contribute technical expertise to acquisition strategy development, including Acquisition Program Baselines (APB), Capability Development Documents (CDD), and program milestone planning.
    • Source Selection Support: Provide technical evaluation of contractor proposals and participate in Source Evaluation Boards (SEBs). Assess technical approaches, identify risks, and recommend source selection strategies.
    • Contract Technical Management: Review and provide input on contract technical requirements, ensuring specifications are accurate, complete, and enforceable. Monitor contractor technical performance and recommend corrective actions.
    • Technical Integration Support: Support system integration activities including hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL) testing environments and system-of-systems integration efforts. Coordinate technical activities across multiple subsystems and interfaces.
    • Counter-UAS Systems Integration: Apply specialized expertise in Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems (C-UAS) technologies, threats, and operational concepts. Support integration of C-UAS capabilities across missile and space defense systems.
    • Interoperability & Standards: Ensure system interoperability with existing Army systems, joint service platforms, and coalition partner systems. Apply relevant standards and architectural frameworks, with particular emphasis on C-UAS integration requirements.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership & Communication
    • Stakeholder Engagement: Interface with diverse stakeholders including program managers, government customers, contractors, operational users, and senior DoD leadership. Facilitate technical coordination across multiple organizations.
    • Technical Communication: Prepare and deliver technical briefings, presentations, and reports to audiences ranging from engineering teams to senior leadership. Translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
    • Documentation & Configuration Management: Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation including system specifications, technical reports, trade study analyses, and integration plans. Assist with developing Systems Engineering Plans (SEP) and supporting systems engineering process documentation.
    • Mentorship & Workforce Development: Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and systems engineering staff. Support workforce development through knowledge transfer, training, and professional development activities.
    • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Lead technical coordination across engineering disciplines, program management, logistics, security, and operational communities to ensure integrated system solutions.

Qualifications

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Minimum 7+ years of systems engineering and program management experience in defense acquisition programs, with demonstrated progression in leadership roles

  • Technical Competencies:
    • Systems engineering principles and lifecycle processes
    • Requirements analysis and systems integration
    • Program management including cost/schedule/performance management
    • Technical risk assessment and mitigation
    • Cross-functional coordination and integration planning
    • Defense acquisition processes and stakeholder management
  • Program Management Experience: Demonstrated experience in program management activities including budget oversight, resource management, milestone tracking, and multi-stakeholder coordination across defense programs
  • Leadership Experience: Proven track record managing programs, coordinating technical teams, and providing technical guidance to government customers and senior leadership
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to interface effectively with technical teams, government customers, and senior leadership
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • An active DoD Top Secret/SCI clearance is required to perform this work. Candidates are required to have an active Top Secret/SCI clearance upon hire, and the ability to maintain this level of clearance during their employment. 

Education Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Systems Engineering, Engineering, or related technical field

Desired Skills:

  • Counter-UAS systems experience including threat analysis, defeat mechanisms, and integration with existing defense systems
  • Test and Evaluation planning experience including TEMP development, test procedures, and T&E support
  • Experience with PEO Missiles & Space programs and acquisition processes
  • Previous SETA contract experience supporting Army PMOs
  • Professional engineering certifications or advanced technical certifications
  • Experience with DoD acquisition processes and regulations (5000 series, JCIDS)
  • Background in missile defense, air defense, or space systems
